Crop rotation and nitrogen boost maize yield by 18% in China.
Crop rotation with soybeans and proper nitrogen fertilization can improve maize growth and yield. A study in China found that maize grown after soybeans had better dry matter accumulation, leaf area, and grain yield compared to continuous maize cropping. Higher nitrogen application rates also increased maize yield, with 180kg/hm2 being the most effective. This study suggests that rotating maize with soybeans and using the right amount of nitrogen can significantly boost maize production in semi-mountainous regions.
