Groundwater depletion threatens agricultural areas in southwestern Louisiana.
The scientists studied a complex aquifer system in Louisiana by analyzing a large amount of well log data. They found that the groundwater in the region had a slight increase in storage over a 10-year period, but the agricultural area experienced depletion. Despite this, the aquifer system showed quick recovery during non-irrigation seasons. The study also revealed a change in groundwater flow direction and potential saltwater migration in the aquifer system.
