Fresh water adaptation boosts photosynthesis in coastal plant seedlings.
Aegiceras comiculatum seedlings were studied to see how they adapt to fresh water compared to artificial sea water. The researchers found that after adapting to fresh water, the seedlings had higher rates of photosynthesis. In July and October, the seedlings showed a peak in photosynthesis during the day, with higher rates in fresh water. Factors like light intensity and stomatal conductance had a big impact on photosynthesis. Overall, Aegiceras comiculatum can adapt well to fresh water environments, showing higher photosynthetic rates compared to sea water.
