Soil texture impacts wheat growth and yield, shaping future food production.
The researchers studied how different types of soil affect the growth of wheat plants. They looked at factors like plant height, root length, and chlorophyll content in loamy, sandy, and clay soils at different stages of growth. They found that loamy soil had the biggest plant population at the seedling stage, while clay soil had the highest plant height in the overwinter period. In the rising stage, all soil types had similar plant population sizes. Clay soil had the highest plant height and tiller number in the filling stage. Overall, loamy soil had the highest chlorophyll content and water content, leading to the highest wheat yield compared to sandy and clay soils.
