Tidal currents control sediment transport in Phoenix Island, shaping coastal landscapes.
The study looked at how sediment moves near Phoenix Island. They used data on sediment concentration, grain size, currents, and waves. They found that sediment is mainly carried by currents, waves, and gravity. Sediment mostly moves parallel to the coast with two convergent centers. Waves and currents affect sediment movement, but not as much because of underwater features. Tidal currents are the main factor in sediment transport, especially in deep water. Sediment doesn't move towards the southwest. The South Shandong Coastal Current doesn't affect sediment near Phoenix Island.
