Frozen embryos thaw to healthy babies, revolutionizing IVF.
The study looked at thawing frozen human embryos using a process called vitrification. They used a special solution with ethylene glycol and small straws for storing the embryos. From 957 embryos, 514 were successfully thawed and transferred to 178 patients. The survival rate after thawing was 72.2%, and the pregnancy rate was 19.7%, with 22 healthy babies born from 16 deliveries. Among them, there were 12 girls and 10 boys. Six pregnancies ended in miscarriage, and 13 are ongoing. The researchers concluded that vitrification is an effective, convenient, and cost-efficient way to freeze human embryos, making it a good alternative to traditional methods.
