New wheat traits discovered to boost yield in challenging soil conditions!
The study looked at how different traits in wheat plants affect grain yield in soil with high pH levels. They tested 108 wheat genotypes and found that traits like harvest index, biological yield, and spike length were strongly correlated with grain yield. Harvest index had the biggest direct impact on grain yield, followed by biological yield and spike length. This means that these traits are crucial for determining how much wheat a plant can produce in sodic soil conditions.
