Financial shocks, not consumption, drove UK's Great Recession: study
The UK's 2008-09 recession was mainly caused by efficiency shocks in production, not by changes in consumption or investment. Financial frictions did not significantly impact the intertemporal rate of substitution in consumption during this period. This suggests that the recession was not primarily driven by asset price shocks.
