China's carbon intensity reduction driven by industry shifts, with electricity and manufacturing leading the way.
The research looked into how different industries in China influenced the country's carbon emissions and intensity. They used two models to see which industries helped reduce carbon intensity and which contributed to increased emissions between 1996 and 2010. The results indicated that changes in carbon intensity and the value of industries played a significant role. Industries like electricity, nonmetal mineral, and transportation services made the biggest impact on carbon emissions and intensity. Some industries, like petroleum refining, helped lower carbon intensity but increased emissions. The study also saw a rise in contributions from service industries, especially transportation and retail services, to national carbon emissions.
