Communist countries lead the way in income equality, study finds.
The study looked at data from 83 countries to see if higher income levels affect how evenly money is spread out. They found that income levels don't really impact income distribution once other factors are considered. Also, the relationship between income levels and distribution changes over time. Countries with Communist or heavily government-controlled economies tend to have more equal income distribution. Education helps make incomes more equal, but economic structure (like what a country exports) plays a big role too. Overall, where a country is located doesn't really affect income distribution once you consider things like education and political systems.
