Solar Stills Optimized to Boost Clean Water Production by Over 100%
The researchers optimized the distillate production in different types of solar stills by adjusting four operational parameters. They found that the best settings varied between plain, corrugated, and compartmental basin stills. For example, the most efficient mass of heat storage material was 16 kg in plain basin stills, 12 kg in corrugated basin stills, and 10 kg in compartmental basin stills. The optimal basin water depth and external mirror position also differed between the types of stills. By using the recommended parameter levels, the distillate production significantly increased in all types of solar stills.
