Imported case sparks school outbreak, early closure key to stopping pandemics.
A school outbreak of 2009 pandemic influenza A(H1N1) was caused by an imported case from Singapore. Non-pharmaceutical interventions like school closure and isolation were effective in controlling the outbreak. Twelve cases were reported with an attack rate of 2.61%. The outbreak lasted 8 days with a generation time of 65.2 hours. School closure at an attack rate of 0.89% helped control the spread. Early closure can effectively prevent the spread of the virus and provide evidence for pandemic influenza control.
