Aging Failures in Power Systems Pose Major Risk to Reliability
The article discusses a method to include aging failures in power system reliability evaluation. The researchers developed a calculation approach using two probability distribution models for aging failures. By applying these models to the BC Hydro north metro system, they found that aging failures significantly impact system reliability, especially in older systems. Neglecting aging failures in reliability assessments of aged power systems can lead to an underestimated system risk and potentially misleading conclusions in system planning.
