Europe's Innovation Clusters Drive Economic Growth and Regional Development
The article investigates innovation and production clusters in Europe using data on regional patenting and production activity from 1978 to 1997. The study covers 138 regions in 17 European countries. The analysis shows a spatial dependence in the distribution of innovation and production activities. Different manufacturing sectors exhibit varying spatial features. Spatial externalities are evaluated for three time periods. The spatial mapping of innovation is compared to productive activity distribution, revealing insights into innovation and production specialization in European regions.
