A new hybrid rice combination called Chunyou 59 was created by crossing a late japonica rice line with a dwarf trait and early flowering time, with an indica rice line. Chunyou 59 shows strong hybrid vigor, sturdy stems, resistance to lodging, large panicles, good cold tolerance, high yield, and wide adaptability. It was officially registered in 2009.
