Monetary union before trade integration in East Asia: a game-changer.
The article discusses the traditional sequence of regional integration starting with trade agreements before moving on to monetary integration. However, in East Asia, there has been little progress in trade integration despite discussions on monetary integration. Some believe that focusing on monetary integration first could actually help promote trade integration. The study re-evaluates global evidence on the relationship between trade and monetary integration and applies it to the prospects for monetary union in East Asia.
