New Study Identifies Most Resilient Onion Cultivars Against LYSV Virus
Onion cultivars commonly grown in Turkey were tested for their reactions to Leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV). Fifteen different onion varieties were inoculated with LYSV-12.6Po, a Turkish isolate, and evaluated using serological and molecular methods. Results showed that some cultivars were not infected by LYSV according to one test, but all tested positive with another method. Overall, LYSV infection led to a significant decrease in growth parameters for most cultivars. Anka, UG kahverengi, and KG kahverengi performed poorly in all parameters, while Şampiyon and Perama showed good tolerance to LYSV. In conclusion, Şampiyon and Perama were identified as the most resistant onion cultivars to LYSV in this study.
