Cyclic aeration was used in a full-scale wastewater treatment plant to remove nitrogen biologically. This process alternates between adding and stopping air in the treatment tanks to help bacteria remove nitrogen from the water. The study showed that cyclic aeration can effectively promote denitrification without needing additional equipment like mixers. This method could be a useful way to improve nitrogen removal in wastewater treatment plants.
