South Asian countries embrace services trade liberalisation for economic growth.
The services sector in South Asian countries has grown rapidly in the past 30 years. To support this growth, these countries have been working on liberalizing their services trade. They have made commitments under GATS and received requests from other countries to open up their services sectors. South Asian countries have also taken steps to liberalize their services trade among themselves, culminating in the South Asian Agreement on Trade in Services (SATIS) in 2010.
