A new maize variety called Jinongyu 898 was developed by Jilin Agricultural University in 2007. It has been found to have a high yield, good quality, and resistance to drought. In tests, Jinongyu 898 produced 9.4% more yield than the comparison variety in regional tests and 6.4% more in production tests. It was officially approved in 2010 and is recommended for planting in middle late and late ripening regions of Jilin province.
