Low light conditions make high-yielding wheat more susceptible to photoinhibition.
The study looked at how wheat leaves respond to sudden changes in light intensity. After shading, the leaves had more chlorophyll but lower photosynthetic rates and light tolerance. Leaves from low light were less able to use and dissipate light energy compared to those from full sunlight. This made them more prone to damage from excessive light.
