Stalled WTO Negotiations Threaten Global Agricultural Trade Liberalization Efforts
The WTO Doha Round of trade negotiations, started in 2001, has not been successfully concluded after twelve years. An attempt to achieve results at the 9th WTO Ministerial Conference in 2013 also seems unlikely. The paper discusses the current stage of negotiations in agriculture, the challenges faced, and the potential outcomes. It questions whether abandoning the Doha Round would be beneficial for agricultural trade liberalization, arguing against it. The paper concludes by considering the necessary conditions for reaching a conclusion to the Round.
