Pork Prices Soar as Germany Tackles Climate Change
The study looks at how gases that harm the environment are produced in making pork. The researchers studied how to make pork production more eco-friendly by including the cost of these gases in the pork's price. They used a model to see the effects of this change on the German pork market. They found that reducing these harmful gases could create welfare gains of around €360,000 up to €3 million when prices are higher. Yet, the benefits are not huge. On the other hand, the effects on who gets the money from this change are significant. Making pork production greener could lead to big disagreements as it would push up prices and might need new technologies to reduce harmful gases.
