Norway's Livestock Emissions Dilemma: Grain-Based Future Holds Key to Greener Pastures
Norway's agriculture produces a significant amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs). By analyzing ways to cut these emissions without relying on outside sources, researchers found methods to decrease GHGs within current technology. A detailed economic model showed that reducing GHGs distorted by government support policies can actually improve economic well-being. To accomplish this, Norway may need to increase grain-based food production at the expense of products from cows and sheep. Therefore, adjusting farming practices can reduce GHGs while keeping Norway self-sufficient in food production.
