Adopting weather-tolerant rice varieties can help Chinese farmers increase their rice yield and reduce losses caused by extreme weather like droughts and floods. A study of 1,080 rice farms showed that farmers who switched to the new variety saw a 7% increase in yield, while those who didn't adopt could have gained 4% more yield if they had. However, adopting the new variety requires more knowledge, education, management, and higher seed costs. Public extension services could help farmers overcome these challenges.
