Non-flooded mulching boosts rice-wheat productivity and sustainability in China.
Non-flooded mulching rice cultivation affects productivity and sustainability in rice-wheat cropping systems. A study in China compared traditional flooding with mulching systems and different nitrogen rates over 3 years. Results showed that mulching altered soil conditions, affecting soil organic matter and nitrogen levels. Different nitrogen application rates also impacted productivity and nitrogen utilization in the cropping systems. The study highlights the importance of considering these factors for sustainable agriculture in rice-wheat systems.
