The study investigated the water quality of centralized water supply in Shanghai to improve health inspection and management. They found that the management of water supply units was satisfactory, but the source water had high levels of COD and total coliform. Product water and tap water also had issues with COD, turbidity, and manganese. The main problems identified were contamination of water sources by organic pollutants and insufficient water treatment.
