Rich families' advantage grows as intergenerational mobility declines in Britain.
The link between how much money your parents make and how much you will make has gotten stronger in recent years in Britain. This is because rich families benefit more from higher education than poor families. A study looked at two groups of people born in 1958 and 1970 and found that children from wealthier families now earn more as adults compared to those from poorer families. In the 1970 group, a child from a family with double the income of another family will earn 25% more as an adult, compared to 12% in the 1958 group. This means that where you come from matters more now than before.
