Xiamen City slashes carbon intensity by 17% through industrial energy efficiency and household consumption changes.
The study looked at carbon intensity in Xiamen City to help make the city greener. Researchers used a method called LMDI to figure out what factors influence carbon emissions. They found that from 2005 to 2010, Xiamen City managed to reduce its carbon intensity by about 17%. The biggest impact came from reducing how much energy industries used, contributing about 63% to the reduction. On the other hand, households actually hindered progress by using more energy, making the carbon intensity drop less. The specific activities and efficiencies in the industrial and household sectors had different effects. Additionally, improving economic efficiency had the most significant impact on lowering carbon intensity, followed by reducing energy use and adjusting industrial structures. Overall, to keep reducing carbon intensity, Xiamen City needs to focus on both industries' energy efficiency and controlling household energy use.
