International migration revitalizes rural regions, sparking innovation and diversity.
Migration of foreign people to rural areas in Austria is increasing, with 21% living in small towns. This helps offset population declines and brings diversity to rural communities. A study analyzed migration data from 2002-2010 and found that immigrants are settling in rural regions for various reasons. The research focuses on identifying areas with high immigrant populations and studying their impact on local communities. Face-to-face interviews and case studies were used to understand the motivations and challenges of immigrants in remote areas. The goal is to explore how migration can benefit rural regions facing population decline and service challenges.
