Farming Practices Impact Soil Water Storage in China's Loess Plateau.
Soil water in the Loess Plateau is influenced by different farming methods. A study monitored water content in deep soil profiles under various farming systems for seven years. Fallow land and unfertilized cropland increased water storage, while continuous alfalfa reduced it. Fertilized cropland had no significant effect. This shows that farming practices can impact water content in deep soil layers.
