Recessions linked to improved health behaviors, but Great Recession impact minimal.
Recessions usually make people healthier, but the Great Recession didn't have much impact on health. A study looked at data from 1990 to 2014 and found that when the economy is bad, people tend to smoke less and exercise more. However, the effects are small and not consistent for all health outcomes. The Great Recession didn't change these trends much, and overall, it didn't have a big influence on people's health and behaviors.
