Depok City faces waste crisis as organic waste generation skyrockets.
The researchers mapped waste generation and collection in Depok City using GIS. They found that the waste treatment facility in the city was struggling to handle the increasing amount of organic waste. The total waste generated in 2018 was around 594,450 tonnes/year and is projected to increase to 886,589 tonnes/year. Organic waste makes up 44% of the total waste and is expected to grow by 3.9% annually. The amount of organic waste generated in 2018 was approximately 272,850 tonnes/year and is projected to increase to 390,098 tonnes/year by 2028. Some sub-districts had high waste generation but limited collection services, with only one waste treatment facility serving a large population. Organic waste collection was divided into local and municipal services, with 22 facilities serving local areas and 8 serving municipal areas.
