Community based health insurance in rural Senegal helps farmers manage health risks and improve access to care. The study found that members of these insurance schemes are more likely to use hospital services and pay less for healthcare compared to non-members. However, the poorest individuals in the community are not covered by these schemes. Overall, community financing schemes have the potential to enhance the ability of rural households to manage health risks.
