Money market futures are contracts based on short-term interest rates. They were introduced in the 1970s as a new type of financial futures, expanding beyond commodities. The first interest rate futures were based on mortgage certificates and were traded on the Chicago Board of Trade. Since then, many new financial futures have been created, including stock index futures. Today, financial futures are among the most actively traded contracts.
