Organic farmers in Kathmandu face challenges in marketing and certification
Organic farming is popular among Kathmandu valley farmers, but they face challenges in production, certification, and marketing. A study interviewed 37 organic growers and found that they struggle with marketing and certification issues. The farmers want easier access to organic inputs like seeds and fertilizers to reduce production costs. Group certification and collective marketing could help address these challenges. While organic farming is currently limited to a niche market, the demand for safe, fresh, and local food is increasing, leading to the popularity of organic products in other regions of Nepal.
