Unprecedented forest loss in Cameroon's Bafut-Ngemba Reserve threatens biodiversity.
The Bafut-Ngemba Forest Reserve in Cameroon has lost over 700 hectares of forest cover from 2010 to 2021 due to human activities like farming, tree planting, logging, and grazing. This rapid loss threatens the biodiversity of the area, especially bird species. Using satellite images, researchers found that the forest loss increased significantly after 2015, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect the remaining biodiversity in the reserve.
