Hygroscopic cloud seeding boosts rain formation in convective clouds.
Cloud seeding with hygroscopic particles can enhance rain formation in convective clouds. A model study focused on mixed-phase clouds in the UAE showed that seeding can increase rain by promoting larger frozen particles through enhanced collision rates. However, the impact of seeding depends on the cloud's state and environment. In conditions already favoring high riming, seeding may not have a significant effect on precipitation yield. Nonetheless, seeding could influence the timing of precipitation onset. Ongoing research aims to understand how ambient conditions affect mixed-phase clouds' susceptibility to seeding.
