Optimized nitrogen management boosts wheat yields in China's Jianghan Plain.
The study compared different crop types for wheat production and nitrogen use efficiency in the Jianghan Plain in China. They looked at two rotations: summer rice-winter wheat and summer soybean-winter wheat. By optimizing nitrogen management, they found that wheat yield was higher in the dryland wheat system compared to the rice-wheat system. The dryland wheat had more spikes and nitrogen accumulation, leading to higher grain yield. This suggests that with proper nitrogen management, the rice-wheat system can be as productive as the dryland wheat system in the Jianghan Plain.
