Soil moisture levels impact crop growth in China's blacksoil regions.
The study examined how soil moisture changes in different types of land cover in the blacksoil regions of China. Using a neutron moisture meter, researchers found that soil moisture decreases with depth, with distinct layers of varying moisture levels. Grassland had the deepest water cycling depth, soybean fields had the highest water cycling intensity, and bare soil had the highest moisture content in the top 20 cm during the growing season. Rainfall mainly controlled soil water storage, with grassland having the highest total evapotranspiration.
