Shade-tolerant peanut varieties show higher yield and photosynthesis under stress.
Shading stress during peanut growth affects how well they can make food from sunlight. Some peanut types handle shading better than others. Two types, S60 and P12, had lower yields and less growth under shading compared to C4 and YS151. S60 and P12 also had higher levels of protective enzymes and could use light better for photosynthesis. C4 and YS151 had lower photosynthesis rates under shading, but they could manage excess light better. This study shows that different peanut types have varying abilities to cope with shading stress, with some being better at using light for growth and protection.
