Unlocking the Secrets of Soil Carbon Storage in Taiwan's Red Soils
Researchers studied soil carbon storage over time in the Pakua tableland in Taiwan. They used soil profiles to estimate carbon accumulation in different soil layers. The carbon content was highest near the surface and decreased with depth, following a predictable pattern. As soil age increased, the amount of carbon stored in the soil decreased. This suggests that carbon storage can be used to determine the age of soil, providing valuable information for understanding soil development and environmental changes.
