Revolutionizing Apple Orchards: New Irrigation Method Saves Water and Boosts Yield
Irrigation is important for growing crops, especially in dry areas. This study looked at different ways to water high-density apple orchards in Pennsylvania. They tested three methods: one based on soil moisture, one based on evapotranspiration, and a conventional method. The soil moisture-based method used the least water and had slightly higher fruit yield compared to the other methods. The fruit quality was similar for all three methods. This shows that using soil moisture sensors for irrigation scheduling can be effective for apple orchards.
