The article presents a method to estimate functions within a certain range, even when the exact functions are unknown. The method uses support functions and Gaussian processes for inference, allowing for analysis of gender wage gaps at different wage levels. The study finds robust evidence of a gender wage gap in the 1970s and 1990s, especially at lower wage levels, and suggests that the wage gap may have decreased at higher wage levels between the two time periods.
