New rice traits identified to boost yield in Nepal's drought-prone regions!
A study in Nepal looked at how different traits in rice plants are related to grain yield during heat stress. They found that traits like 1000-grain weight, SPAD reading, and number of filled grains per panicle were strongly linked to higher yield. On the other hand, traits like sterility percentage and panicle length had a negative impact on yield. The number of tillers per hill and days to flowering had the biggest positive effect on yield. Overall, these findings suggest that certain traits can be used as indicators for selecting rice plants with higher grain yield under heat stress conditions.
