Soil erosion threatens water reservoir in Ethiopia, impacting irrigation downstream.
Soil erosion is a big problem in Ethiopia, especially in the Anjeb watershed. Researchers used remote sensing and GIS to study erosion and sediment in the area. They found that the soil loss rate is high in steep areas, with an average of 17.3 tons per hectare per year. Sediment is accumulating in the watershed, threatening the Anjeb reservoir. This study suggests that better land management practices are needed to reduce erosion and protect the reservoir.
