Costs soar as irrigation systems expand, leading to economic inefficiencies.
The goal of the study was to analyze the costs of setting up and running a sprinkler irrigation system for different field sizes and slopes. The researchers looked at the costs involved in installing the system, as well as the fixed and variable costs for maintaining it. They found that as the size of the irrigated area increased, the costs also went up, especially due to the expenses of pipes and maintenance. The cost of energy remained relatively constant with increasing area size, but increased by about 5.2% with a steeper slope. Overall, the study showed that larger irrigated areas led to higher costs, indicating a lack of cost efficiency with scale.
