Well-watered trees cool city streets, reduce urban heat by 2.7°C.
The study looked at how trees can help cool down city streets during hot weather. Researchers built a small model of a street with buildings on each side and studied how the temperature changed. They found that the street got very hot, but when trees were added, the temperature dropped significantly. Trees reduced the air temperature by up to 2.7 degrees Celsius during the day and improved human comfort by 8 degrees Celsius. This shows that planting trees in cities can help lower temperatures and make people feel more comfortable during heatwaves.
