Climate change and urbanization to intensify extreme heat in Greater Bay Area.
The study looked at how future urbanization and climate change will affect summer temperatures in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. They found that both factors will make it hotter, with urban areas warming by about 0.51°C and climate change by about 0.70°C. Climate change will increase extreme heat events more than urbanization. Urban areas will be drier during the day but warmer at night, while climate change will make the whole day more uncomfortable. By 2030, the number of days with dangerous heat levels will increase by at least 8.87% due to both urbanization and climate change.
