Eco-friendly refrigerants could slash energy costs and emissions worldwide.
The scientists studied two ways of making refrigeration systems work better: in series and in parallel. They checked how well these systems controlled temperature and moisture. They compared using R134a refrigerant with new ones, R290 and R600, that are more eco-friendly. R600 turned out to perform better than R134a, giving a 102.72% rise in cooling power. The series system using R600 was the most efficient and cost-effective, performing 7.8% better in cooling and 11% better in energy use compared to the parallel system with R600.
